International News: The recent '2025 World Threat Assessment' report by the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) reveals several startling insights into the military strategies of India, Pakistan, and China. While the report has praised India's 'self-reliant defense policy,' deep concern has been expressed about Pakistan's rapid expansion of nuclear weapons and deep military alliance with China.

Big disclosure on Pakistan: Foreign help in WMD program

According to the DIA report, Pakistan is advancing its nuclear program not only with domestic resources but also with technical assistance from China, Turkey, and Gulf countries. The report also states that Pakistan is constantly acquiring foreign material and technology to prepare weapons of mass destruction (WMD), deepening the possibility of tension and instability in the South Asian region.

China's military alliance with Pakistan presents a significant threat to India

The report makes it clear that the strong military coordination between Pakistan and China has become a "strategic threat" to India. China is not only providing military technology to Pakistan but is also supporting it at the diplomatic level at global forums, making it imperative to redefine India's security policy.

China is the main threat, while Pakistan is viewed as a limited security concern

According to the DIA assessment, India regards Pakistan as a manageable security challenge but prioritizes China as its primary strategic threat. The Modi government's defense policy is focused on countering China's growing aggression, modernizing the army, and becoming self-reliant in defense production.

In 2024-25, India successfully tested missiles like Agni-I Prime and Agni-V, as well as deployed another nuclear-powered submarine in the maritime area, further strengthening India's nuclear triad (three-way nuclear capability).

US eye on India-Russia relations

The report also said that India will continue to maintain Russia as its defense and strategic ally in 2025. Although there has been some reduction in new purchases of military equipment, India remains dependent on Russia for servicing and spare parts for Russian-made tanks and fighter jets.

Challenging times for South Asia

The DIA report sees South Asia as an emerging strategic battlefield. While India is increasing its strength through its military modernization and 'Make in India' policy, the joint strategy of Pakistan and China is ringing alarm bells. In such a situation, India will have to rapidly strengthen its security capabilities while maintaining a balance.
